Lamoine Run - 7.23.07Ron Hagelganz and Don Williams - in honor of Dave Johnson |
| Dave Johnson and I had been planning a ride together for
many
years. Him heading north from Tulare CA, and me going south from
Vancouver WA. The idea was to meet in the middle which he figured was
Lamoine CA, just about 400 miles for each of us. In 2007 after Dave bought his Ultra we thought our dream would finally become a reality, until he suffered a massive heart attack on 2/25/07 and I lost my good friend. So, I decided to make the run in his honor. My buddy Don Williams came along and we left Vancouver at 6AM on Monday 7/23/07 heading south on I-5 for exit 710. I brought Dave's photo along, and when we pulled off to the side of I-5 just before the exit I pulled out the photo and introduced Don to Dave and said "This is Dave, we made it".
After these photos we went on into Redding to our hotel, and I went to Nathans Tattoo and got some new ink to commemorate the event. Then around the corner to Jack's Grill for one of the best steaks I've ever had. ![]() The next day we left out 299 to Weaverville, then hwy 3 to Yreka, and then I-5 all the way home. We got back to Vancouver around 8:30PM on Tuesday 7/24/07, and did 979.9 miles in the two days. ![]() I thank the Lord for a safe trip (my 06 EGC 103" ran great!), for my buddy Don's partnership in this, and for the chance to honor my friend who I miss every day. |
